Jané Kawai
The Jané Kawai was released in 2019. It is a stroller or stroller system in a limited edition - a version based on the success of the urban hybrid Kendo with all-terrain capabilities. The original, luxurious look of the Kawai is achieved not only by premium materials and a chrome, glossy chassis, but also by a cheerfully patterned reversible seat liner, a shopping basket large enough to fit a basketball, and by the large rubber wheels with suspension. You can, therefore, easily tackle urban surfaces as well as more demanding terrain outside of the city, while having a rather compact stroller at your hand.
The fully reversible seat unit can be reclined deep enough even for children that cannot sit independently yet. It features breathable fabrics and an extendable hood offering protection against wind, rain and UV rays. It also features an extendable mesh panel to allow air flow through, as well as a practical rear pocket. By adding a Micro carrycot - which is also usually a part of the Kawai bundle - or another Jané carrycot and/or a car seat, you have an opportunity to create a full-featured system suitable from birth. Alternatively, you can use carrycots, seat units and car seats of brands with the same type of Pro-Fix attachments, such as Concord or Be Cool. In all of these cases, you won’t need any adapters.

Parent reviews of the Jané Kawai
- large wheel good for rough terrain
- good suspension
- can be used with matrix lay flat car seat
- decent size basket
- clunky folding mechanism
- can only be folded forward facing otherwise its huge
- short seat back that 18m old outgrew
- badly placed bumper bar
- seat too reclined
I purchased this pram specifically so I could use the Matrix 2 lay flat car seat on and not have an additional carry cot which it was great for. It also folds up quite small for a full size pram and has decent wheels and suspension. For these reasons it was great but in hindsight, I would not buy it again and choose a different pram.
The fold is quite clunky and doesn't lock automatically or stand upright. It has a fiddly strap which I never end up using and so have scratched my car when the pram flaps open. The seat is quite reclined which my child didn't really like as he wanted to be more upright once he was able to sit up himself. The bumper bar also isn't high enough as it restricted his legs as he got a bit older and was unusable with the foot muff on.
Most annoyingly though is that my child outgrew the seat back length at 18m so much so that the hood couldn't even be used and I had to buy a new stroller.
- beautiful and stylish
- lightweight and compact for a full-featured stroller/stroller system
- high-quality rubber wheels
- all-wheel suspension (even though it is not a rocking chassis, it absorbs shocks well enough)
- adjustable, super tall handlebar - good even for my 2m husband
- awesome quick-folding carrycot (Micro) with a lot of space (which I didn't expect actually)
- seat unit is a bit open
- I would extend the seat's canopy with a fabric panel, not a non-coverable mesh
- folding the chassis needs a few tries to get used to (and it only folds with the seat forward-facing)
- probably not the cheapest - but I find it worth the price
I love it - it is so great for us, needing a full-size stroller system while hoping for something relatively compact since we use the car a lot... It pushes so well (for me, a short mum, as well as my 2m hubby)! We were able to go pretty much through everything (we were also ok in winter - some snow in the city...).
The baby was comfy in the Micro carrycot, and later on also in the seat. It is a bit open, but that is an advantage in the summer (a lot of air), and in the winter, we are using a nice footmuff anyhow. My daughter is comfy in the seat, even though I wish it was a little bit more upright in the sitting position - she doesn't seem to mind ;-) It is comfortably padded, and with a liner in it as well. Space-wise, it seems absolutely appropriate. I believe we keep the Kawai until at least 2 and a half years of hers.
The fold of the chassis is really compact, and it is overall a lightweight model. However, I would make the lock after folding automatic - now you need to do it manually yourself with a strap. Also, the most compact is a two-piece fold, even though you can fold it with the seat attached (forward-facing only).
- beauty married practicality in this pram
- maybe the plastic joints could be a little sturdier, the chassis feels a bit looser after time, but it doesn't really make a difference in how it drives
We are happy with it. It is very functional and comfortable for the baby as well as the parent. I think we would choose the same again if having another go at it. We even got a very nice offer for a 3in1 combination (all clicked on without any adapters, mind you), so it was a bargain, considering how much we use it.
