Maxi-Cosi Leona
.eli
The Maxi-Cosi Leona is a very lightweight, very compact 2021 reversible-seat-stroller release. The weight of only 7,5 kg and a folded size close to the size of ultra-compact strollers combined with rubber wheels with suspension and a high-weight-capacity, adjustable-backrest-height seat unit makes it an ideal from-birth to the end of stroller days candidate for urban parents. The Leona pushchair folds with one hand and with the seat attached in any direction.
The reversible seat features a full lie-flat recline as well as an extendable canopy. You can put your newborn not only into the padded seat but also the optional Oria or Jade carrycot - both sit pretty high on the stroller frame. Car seat adapters to create a full-featured travel system are also available.

Parent reviews of the Maxi-Cosi Leona
- lightweight
- breaks easily
- quality not very good
- not robust
- Maxi Cosi replacement service horrible
Arrived already damaged, you could only pull down the sunscreen with brute force. The handle with which you could adjust the seat settings broke after 3 months. Waited for replacement for ages, and it turned out that the manufacturer couldn't even replace it in the original color.
Some positives, but definitely some negatives.
Positives:
a) lightweight and readily foldable - once you get the knack. So good for travel - planes and cars.
2) flexibility of turning seat around - and easy to do.
3) reasonable price - got a good discount in Kyiv buying it prior to our forced exit.
Negatives:
a) small wheels on crap pavements (as we have to suffer in Athens) mean lots of jerky stops as the stroller falls into one of the many paving stone holes that we have to suffer here. Larger-wheeled strollers suffer a lot less from that problem.
b) too small - our boy is very tall for his age (coming up to 14 mths), and his head is touching the ceiling of the stroller canopy. I think we will need to replace it shortly, way before the proposed age range is reached.
c) canopy - both of ours (we have two babies) have been essentially flawed. One was more than the other, with the canopy frame way too easily being put out of shape by regular use. We were told we had to use both hands to carefully open and close the canopy - this is frankly a bit ridiculous. Maxi-Cosi replaced the first one without an issue, then the 2nd one started to have the same problem over the next 4 mths - and we are getting that changed.
d) short seat - legs hang over too much, but I notice this is a very common problem with strollers.
Conclusion - for our purpose for air travel and 2 strollers into a car - it was an ok option. If you only have a need for one and no need for air travel - then I would look elsewhere, especially if you are coming from a city with crap pavements where small wheels are a major headache.
We have a Maxi-Cosi high chair which we are very happy with, but this particular stroller does not share that quality.
- Light and easy to drive on a straight road
- It is parent and street-facing too
- It folds quite easily
- It stands when it is folded
- Fully upright seat position
- Fully reclining position
- It has a small pocket to put some personal stuff on the backrest
- You can not open the bumper bar when it is parent-facing
- The footrest is too short, my 6 month old baby's feet were in the air
- It is very very low, it feels weird like baby is on the ground
- Very small wheels my front wheel broke in 2 months
- It is wide, it doesn't fit in small elevators
- It seems that the seat belt is too small and when my baby gets older it will not fit him
- The zip of the canopy gets stuck on the small label all the time when I open it
- It needs some side protection, it is like baby lies on a plain board
I would not recommend this stroller. I bought it for 270 euros and it does not worth the money for all the reasons I mention later. At this price, you can find better ones.
Your questions about the Maxi-Cosi Leona
what is the degree of the deepest recline?
Hey, MM,
It's about 170 degrees. It should be ok for children that do not sit independently yet.
Hello,
My baby 6 month old, 9.2 kg, 70cm long, I'm looking for a pushchair 2 way facing, able to lie flat both way, ultra compactable, able to take onto plane. I've tried the Leona one, but found it a bit to narrow on the seat, only 29cm in width. So I am looking at Chicco One4Ever, and Recaro Lexa Elite as well, but not sure which one is wider for my baby to move and being comfortable during a nap.
Hey, Cind,
If you want an ultra-ompact, cabin-sized stroller. that is reversible, the seat will inherently be narrow (and smaller in general). Be sure to expect that from any ultra-compct reversible, and there are not many of those. For a 6mo, actually that should not be problem, just don't expect the stroler to last 3 years+.
Personally I would go for either the Lexa Elite or the Cybex Eezy S-Twist2 which are on the more spacious side (for the type, still not crazy spacious though). I was looking at the Chicco One4Ever design but I did not find it as practical, but that can also be my subjective opinion and is better to try out in a store if you do like it.
Hi
I’m confused about which stroller to buy - Maxi Cosi Leona 2 Luxe or Babyzen Yoyo 2? Could you please advise?
Hey, Sara,
These are two very different-use strollers, The Babyzen is a travel, occasional-use-only strollers. It is very small, but also very slanted, and the seat back's height is short, so even if people use it more regularly, it is actually not the right use, and the baby is often quite uncomfortable for it. So that would be your choice if you need a holiday stroller or something small for shopping and occasional use.
The Leona is also not all-terrain because of the small wheels, but the reversible seat and a bit larger size are meant for more regular use. Because of its small size and a lie-flat, reversible seat unit, this model will be the best for smaller kids that need an everyday stroller when the terrain won't be too demanding.
Hi Eli, is there a snack tray compatible with the Leona stroller?
Hi, Halimah,
No, as far as I know, there is no snack track accessory for this pushchair.
Hi from Portugal,
Me and my wife are struggling to choose from the Maxi Cosi Leona or the Cybex Eezy S-Twist+², mainly more positive sides for the Leona, we feel that we will get more for the money (and less expensive vs Cybex). But we really like the car seat Cybex Cloud Z i-size, do you know if is available any adptater to fit in the Leona stroller that would enable the use of the car seat from Cybex?
Hiya, guys,
Nice choice! I quite like the Leona's more full-size feel and the super fabrics. Do not worry, as the car seat adapter that is available for the Leona - for Maxi-Cosi car seats - is compatible with Cybex car seats as well. So you will be able to attach the Cloud Z i-size to its frame.
To be honest, it is good to know the Cloud Z is super heavy and another downside is that you cannot reline it during the car ride, so I would also recommend checking the Pebble 360, the Kiddy Evoluna, the Nuna Arra and the Joie i-Level which CAN be reclined even in the car, and are, from what I tried, nicer in terms of materials (the Nuna being 1 kg lighter than the other ones). Just a tip! All are anyhow safe, good car seats that all fit the same Leona car seat adapters ;-)
Hello! Can the Leona fit as a carry on for airplane?
Hey, Elle,
With the folded dimensions of 55 cm x 45 cm x 32 cm, the Leona can actually fit into the carry-on dimensions of many airlines, yes. However, each airline had a different set of requirements, so be sure to check with them before getting to the airport.
P.S. If the stroller is 1-1.5 cm taller/wider, it usually passes anyway. Just a tip.
Is there a toddler stand/seat compatible with the Leona which is attached to the stroller?
Hi, Chloe,
There is no second seat available, nor an original sibling ride is made for this pretty lightweight stroller with rather small wheels. You can, however, attach a universally fitting kiddy board on the back of the stroller - two brands I can highly recommend because of their easy fit on pretty much any stroller chassis are the Lascal Buggy Board (here, I'd go for the Mini as the pushchair is not so large) OR the Bumprider board.
P.S. I would strongly advise reading this sibling board guide of ours just to know all the pros and cons as well!
Where can I buy the Maxi Cosi Leona online, I can’t find it anywhere!
Hi, Mia,
The Maxi-Cosi Leona is COMPLETELY NEW and just released, it will take a bit of time for it to get to all the world's stores. Be patient, it certainly will (in a few weeks to months' time), as it's usual with all new releases.
If very impatient, I would suggest contacting any Maxi-Cosi brand distributor around you and ask to be informed whether and when will they get the Leona in stock. They will most certainly do so - they want to sell the products, after all.
