Silver Cross Dune

The reversible compact pushchair
.eli
see 4 parent reviews

The Silver Cross Dune is a May 2022 release of a single urban reversible pushchair with the possibility of a full-featured 2in1 or 3in1 stroller system. Silver Cross actually presents it as a 5in1 as there are optional accessories such as a soft insert cot called "Newborn Pod" usable right in the seat, and a ride-on board available (there's more, e.g. a luxury backpack-style changing bag to buy separately if you want such).

The compact Silver Cross Dune stroller frame features an individual wheel suspension, though the size of the wheels and a bit rigid frame and suspension of Silver Cross strollers overall make it ideal for manicured surfaces mostly. The from-birth "First Bed Folding Carrycot" is a regular folding carrycot with a double sun visor and enough ventilation to allow overnight sleeping. Apart from this bassinet, you can attach a car seat with adapters (either Silver Cross or a Maxi-Cosi/Cybex type of adaptors are available) to create a car-friendly travel system (officially compatible with these car seats: Clek Liing; Cybex, and Maxi-Cosi car seats - all, including the Mico 30, Mico Max & Coral XP; Nuna Pipa, Pipa Lite, Pipa Lite LX and Pipa RX).

The seat unit of the Dune is reversible, so you can click it on parent-facing or street-facing as needed. The seat has a canopy that includes an extension, a double sun visor, and even a hidden integrated sunshade called "Sun Sail" that will cover pretty much the whole child even in lie-flat mode. Dune also boasts a "Genius harness system" that stays open and features a magnetic buckle for easy harnessing the child in. A lot of padding and luxury-looking recycled/sustainable fabrics are some of the reasons for the luxury look of the pram as well as the high price of this city model.

For those loving the Dune design and features but needing something more all-terrain, Silver Cross also released the more multi-terrain Silver Cross Reef.

parents say thx^^
  • Beautiful fabric
  • Premium feel
  • Easy to dissemble
  • Folds down small but still big for the car
  • Impossible to push up curbs. I thought this was just after my c section but 2 months in it has not improved. The drivability of this pram is 0/10

It is a beautiful design, lovely fabric, but has some design flaws.

  • Look the all black colour way
  • Good space underneath pram
  • Easy to put up and down
  • Foldable bassinet.
  • The wheels are small

Not enjoying this pram at all. Doesn't compare to the old Wayfarer. The wheels are small and I struggle to go over something as insignificant as a hose pipe let alone a curb. Used it 4 times and looking to sell. Will try the Reef with slightly bigger wheels!

  • Design
  • Sun sail – shading fabric
  • No-maintenance wheels covered in rubber
  • Padding, especially for smaller babies
  • Two bassinet options, an insert one and a folding one
  • Suspension is not so bad for an urban model
  • Compact enough for a full featured pushchair that reverses
  • Basket access
  • Tall, telescoping push bar
  • Luxury details
  • Price is high
  • Weight is high
  • Carrycot size - 70 cm internal measurement will last you 4 months AT THE MAXIMUM
  • It is more compact when the seat is parent-faces before folding, but you actually use a world-facing setup more
  • Wheels are not the quietest
  • Short leg rest
  • The seat will last you 2 to three years maximum, depending on how large is your child - no way to put a 22kg (4-5 years old) child in there
  • No accessories in such a high price
  • No colorful options

The price is way too high for such a limited-use stroller. I checked it out thoroughly as I was considering it, but I must say it is not my winner. It looks great but it is not as practical as it is good-looking.

More in pros and cons.

The textiles and the padding are gorgeous. The harness is easy to do. The pillow insert for under the head seems awesome but I see it as impractical a bit, mainly when you want to use a seat liner or your child is not large enough to actually have its head on the pillow. A nice stroller indeed, but not much for terrain. And what actually surprised me is the weight - it weighs much more than the Cybex Mios or the Bugaboo Bee.

Your questions about the Silver Cross Dune

1)

We have silver cross dune pram and I tried to use the sun sail. Unfortunately it seems that the sun sail is too small and can’t stretch it on one side. Any suggestions?

Hey, Suzie,

It *shouldn't* be too small. I would perhaps contact the customer service as you may have a faulty product - and they can either point you in the right direction, or replace it.

2)

Hi.

I recently purchased the Silver Cross Dune, and I am having a hard time folding it with the bar on. Am I supposed to take off the bar every time before folding the stroller?

Heya, Bb,

The bar should not have to go off when folding - it should be folding with the seat as far as I know. Try giving it multiple go's still, I mean, with folding, the stiff (from being new) mechanisms should loosen a bit and it should go smoothly(-ish). However, if it proves not changing over time, or if you mind it too much, you can always remove it before folding, of course.

3)

I live in a city and will use this as my everyday pram for daily walks. We will be walking on city sidewalks which can be uneven. We won’t go on grass or mud. Do you think this pram will be able to handle bumpy city side walks of New York City.

Thank you

Hey, Jas,

I think you should be fine with it. The downside is that there's not too much suspension, so bumps, you will feel. But not going on grass or mud, this should be ok with the Lusual" average sidewalks, yes.

4)

Can you fold with front wheels in lock position? OR do you have to fold with them in swivel position.

Hiya, Sal,

You can fold the stroller both with the front wheels lock as well as swiveling. It is actually a bit more practical to fold it with the wheels locked as they won't get in the way. Both ways should be possible though.
