Best Deals for Hauck Colibri
Parent reviews of the Hauck Colibri
- Suitable from birth to 3-4 yrs old (Comfortable to sleep horizontally still at a height of 95 cm)
- Rear facing!
- Lightweight and small
- Horizontal sleeping position
- Sturdy
- Very fair price tag
- Large canopy
- Large free space between basket and seat unit allowing to place bulky (fairly light items) like a backpack there
- Little suspension so for newborn not ideal on uneven terrain
- At a child s weight of 14 Kg plus basket full with groceries it has trouble handling steps/wholes in the sidewalk
I love the Hauck colibri as it is adapted to train travel (lightweight, small)/stairs/ fits in every trunk while still allowing my child to sit rear facing which she still adores at 3 year old. I cannot support the wobbly/not sturdy part of some other reviews. Of course, it has little suspension, and to pass a higher step on a sidewalk with a heavier child, you need to grab the front wheels. BUT we've taken it on grass, in some 3cm slush/snow, good forest roads, ferries and packed the basket with way more than 3 kg (foldable car seat/backpack/2.5yr old climbing inside) and it has held up for almost 2 years now. One screw loosened and it didn't fold properly anymore but retightening the screw and it works like a charm again. For me, especially for the price tag it is unbeatable.
- Lovely looking
- World or parent facing which I absolutely loved
- Can put car seat on if you need
- Good size basket
- I returned mine as it wasn’t very sturdy, I wouldn’t feel like it would hold up very well on any sort of bumpy terrain even walking pavements to town
- It wouldn’t last very long for the child, my small 3 month old fit in it excellently but I can’t see a 1 year old feeling the same
- I also wouldn’t chance it with the weight as even though it says it’s okay, it really didn’t feel robust enough
Not sturdy.
- price
- modern design
- low weight
- compact folding
- small wheels
- small seat
- cup holder on the outside
- loose frame
- shallow basket
- short canopy
Small and compact, but very simple and cheaper feeling. I mean, if you need a reversible pushchair and something for a tiny boot for not too much money, OK. But you'll feel the frame loosen up the more you go over bumps, and the small wheels get stuck in potholes.
I quite detest the cup holder which I bump into everything - such a shame it's protruding outside.
The last niggle of mine would be the short, small seat. It will last up to about 18 months of the child, so no way to put a 25 kg child inside.
Your questions about the Hauck Colibri
Is the seat of this stroller sit upright at 90 degrees?
Hi, Anshu,
No, it isn't, pretty much no stroller seat is at 90-degrees, it is a technical thing and almost impossible to achieve with folding strollers. The seat is at about ~100 degree angle when fully upright.
Hi Eli,
I'm wondering if this stroller can be folded when in the parent facing position? I've seen your comments about the weak suspension and I also wonder if it will be the best stroller for me in London. Pavements can be bumpy and there are a lot of kurbs to go up and down. There are also some cobbled streets. I need a stroller that will be good to travel through an airport as well as work as a day to day stroller in the city. I hope you can advise me further.
Thanks
Áine
Hiya, Áine,
Well, if you read my comment, you would know this is not the best stroller in terms of sturdiness and bumps on the road. They will make the ride quite uncomfortable and also quite wobbly - this will get worse over time, with strain (which bumps and cobblestones most certainly are). I mean, I do believe it can survive all that somehow if you'll be careful and also won't expect too much of this pram, BUT it would not be my choice for London.
About the folding, it can fold both parent- and rearward-facing, so yes, that requirement will be fulfilled. The short seat and weaker joints, combined with the super small wheels, make this, however, more of a second, occasional stroller for a smaller child.
My own choice for something like you mention would be something more sturdy (even when plane traveling and the stroller being thrown around, you'll appreciate quality) - even if pre-owned. Similar in size would be the Cybex Mios (I know, a new one is not cheap) or the Easywalker Charley (full Easywalker Charley review here) - but the EW you might not be able to get your hands on (try on their own site).
Also, if you're looking at something affordable while lightweight, you might want to "sacrifice" the reversible seat unit and go for something like an Oyster Zero with a bassinet, or, perhaps, an Uppababy Minu with a carrycot. Again, I would rather advise a higher quality stroller bought second hand than a cheap new pram that will perform worse. But, if a new one is most definitely for you, I, of course, understand.
Hello,
I would like to know if I can, with this stroller and its suspensions, be comfortable on damaged roads, paths or earth/dirt roads?
Thank you so much
Hey, Alex!
I am so sorry to disappoint you, but this is a VERY urban morel with weak suspension and super small wheels. On damaged roads, you will be very uncomfortable with it, and you might damage it and its frame considerably as it is not meant for such use at all.
I strongly recommend you to read this guide about stroller wheels types, also this guide about three-wheeled versus four-wheeled strollers, and, lastly, this article about choosing your stroller. You should find that to set up priorities when choosing a stroller will be the first you need and that you'll need a pram with a stronger, larger chassis and bigger wheels. Quality wins in this case, as you need a heavy-duty stroller, not a small, compact urban ride, so do consider a higher stroller budget or a pre-owned but better-quality stroller.
