Stokke was established in 1932 by George Stokke in Ålesund on the west coast of Norway. Stokke started out producing bus seats, recliners, ergonomic seats, and home office systems. The company was one of the first companies with female employees and designers. Their first product for children was launched in 1972 - the iconic Tripp Trapp chair designed by Peter Opsvik. In the late 1990s, the children’s collection expanded to include the oval Sleepi bed. The first stroller of the brand, the unique Stokke Xplory, was launched in 2003, introducing the concept of high, parent-facing, reversible seat unit strengthening the bond between a parent and a child. Thanks to the popularity of the Xplory as well as the whole childcare collection, in 2006, Stokke decided to focus on premium products exclusively. The emphasis is on the timeless design, comfort, and health of the child, and also the feeling of safety and closeness to the parent. Since the start of the company until the year 2014, three generations of the family were leading Stokke, and during this time, many popular products were released, including strollers such as the Scoot (2012), the Crusi (2012) and the Trailz (2014). Nowadays, Stokke belongs under investment company NXMH.
