ABC Design Avus

The simplistic, quick-folding, spacious ABC forward-facer
.eli
see 3 parent reviews

The ABC Design Avus is a minimalist, lightweight enough compact mid-sized stroller and/or a from-birth travel system thanks to its compatibility with Maxi-Cosi-style-attachments car seats. A gorgeous simplicity combined with a spacious seat with a tall backrest, as well as generous padding and a large hood, make it a very nice comfort stroller for a toddler and an urban mom. The Avus' seat only world-faces (it is not reversible), but it is fully reclinable, up to a lie-flat). Even the leg rest can be adjusted.

ABC Design Avus compatible car seats:
- ABC Design Tulip
- Cybex Aton, Aton M, Aton M i-size, Aton 5, Aton Q, Aton Q Plus, Aton Q i-size, Cloud Q, Cloud Q Plus, Cloud Z i-size

I'm so disappointed

1

I have an ABC Avus pushchair and there is no space for the baby sit up properly. It is too small. And they can't sit up. Keeps sliding down.... I'm so disappointed.

  • roomy
  • good-looking
  • canopy+++
  • larger wheels
  • adjustable handle
  • foam wheels
  • not a huge suspension strength

Loving it. For regular strolls with a toddler (not too heavy terrain conditions), the perfect pushchair.

We all really like it. You can fit a 3yo no problem in here. The footrest could be a bit wider... Anyway, it has all the features you'd need while staying simple and straightforward.

Your questions about the ABC Design Avus

1)

I have looked at a lot of stroller options and I really really like the Avus model. The problem is that ideally I would like to use it from birth and it's not compatible with a carrycot. You seem to be saying that it's still usable from birth but with a Maxi-Cosi, aren't those seats for traveling in the car ? Can I use a Maxi Cosi for daily strolls outside during the first 6 months of the baby?

I was also thinking to use the Avus in a lie-flat position + a cocoon style cot, like the Cybex Cot S or the Red Castle Citylink cocoon. Do you think it could be an option? Thank you!

Hiya, Natalia!

You are absolutely right, a car seat is mostly for traveling, and on a stroller, it can be used with a newborn or a small baby only for shorter time periods or for occasional shoping etc. It should not be used with a car seat as a full-time stroller option, that is not healthy for the child's neck and spine, and can cause problems in later adulthood of the child.

However, you can use it with a car seat that reclines on the frame, e.g. the Joie i-Level, the Kiddy Evoluna i-size, or the Cybex Cloud - it will be much healthier, but also an expensive option for sure.

I personally would definitely go for the soft cot/cocoon option if I were to use such a pushchair from birth, YES! A universal one, from Hauck throught Stokke to Red Castle you mentioned, you can actually use it more comfortably, of course, only in the lie-flat mode. It will, however, make the fold bulkier or more demanding if taking the whole thing off when folding your pushchair.

Or, lastly, you can always find similar style buggies with a carrycot option, e.g. the Baby Jogger City Mini2 or the Oyster Zero...

I find the Avus, Mint, and Okini are quite similar, just like an evolving product line. Which one is your preference for daily use in the city, or any comparable type?

Hi, Alex,

You are right, this IS their evolving line of a lighter, forward-facing mid-size pushchair! If I would be picking, I would definitely go with the newest model, which means the Avus, as with time, the manufacturer usually makes stuff better. And the Avus is really neat and spacious.

If the Avus would not be available, the nest would be the [[abc-design-okini|ABC Design Okini, as the second newest.
