Mountain Buggy Duet V1

DISCONTINUED in 2014

The Mountain Buggy Duet is one of the slimmest double strollers with side-by-side seats. It was launched in 2011. The width is only 63cm, which is an ordinary width of a single stroller. Therefore, the Duet is the biggest competition to the favorite Bugaboo Donkey. Thanks to the well-balanced center of gravity and the air-filled tires, the Duet can handle even a more challenging terrain.

The Duet can also be used in the Double mode for twins, combining two carrycots or two car seats. You can also use it for siblings by combining a seat with either a carrycot or a car seat. Alternatively, you can use two seats for older siblings. There is also an optional scooter - the Freerider, that can be added to the chassis as a sibling board to ride with three children at the same time. You can even use the Duet for just one child using one seat with an additional shopping basket with a weight capacity of up to 5 kg.

Your questions about the Mountain Buggy Duet V1

1)

Is there a way to add a parent facing on this model. My newborn is currently in a cacoon in the second seat but not ready to world face.

Hey, Liz,

Unfortunately not, for the Duet V1, there is no way to reverse the seats. Only the Duet V3 model got the addition of the new carrycots convertible into reversible seats - check that newer model for that option.

I’ve just picked up a Duet second hand. How do I know if it is a V1 or V2?
Nick

Heya, Nick,

On the first sight, it is very hard, but the Duet V1's hood is a tad rounder. You can, however, tell based on the folding system. The Duet V2 has a mechanism that allows even for one-handed folding, however, the V1 needs two hands. The V2 also has newer safety belts without the extra fabric sticking out, so - sleeker. And - the fabric is nicer, less creased on the V2, plus the wheels of the V2 version are wider than the 1st, though that you won't see without having the two version side by side, I guess.

I would probably focus on the folding to be clear about the version.

Hi!

Is there a single seat available for the duet frame? My oldest has lost interest in the stroller but I’d like to keep using it with my youngest.

Thank you

Hiya, Lindsey,

There s no single seat here, at least not a different one than the one already on, I am sorry. Mountain Buggy, however, made this Joey bag solution/accessory that can replace the second seat and make the stroller a single pram with an extra basket, similar to the Donkey line from Bugaboo.

Just wondering if this product is discontinued due to a recall?

Hiya, Scarlett!

No, it is not discontinued due to a recall, don't you worry. It is discontinued simply because a new generation with improved features took place – and took over. At this moment, the most recent version is actually the Mountain Buggy Duet V3.

Hi,

I have just picked up a second-hand V1 and I am looking for a carrycot for a newborn and I’m not sure what is compatible with the v1.

Bec

Hi Bec,

Well, the first thing I'll suggest is to look at classifieds. The carrycot for the Duet V1 model was the older type (as opposed to the convertible type that was introduced from the second generation which requires a set of adaptors), and as an older model, it is not sold anywhere. Pre-loved, used ones (if you'll be able to find any) would be the best fit

This is how the bassinet looks like (so you know what you're searching for):

If you won't be able to find the right carrycot, I would go for a soft, insert carrycot or cocoon that would be a universal solution to your problem. From Hauck 2-in-1 Carrycot Convertible to Footmuff or a Diono Newborn Pod to Phil&Teds Cocoon (Soft Carrycot), just check what's available for your double stroller... and, if possible, try in a baby shop, if you want to be sure about the fit. But you should be fine either way - these are made to be pretty versatile.
