The Maxi-Cosi Lara² is a second - color and fabrics updated generation of the original Maxi-Cosi Lara and a buggy identical to the Bébé Confort Lara² belonging to a sister brand. It is a lightweight, ultra-compact stroller with the ability to create a travel system.

The stroller is unique for having two shopping baskets so that despite minimalist dimensions typical for its category, the stroller offers enough storage space for walks and trips. The Lara is also boasting a super simple fold. The - almost automatic - fold is activated by pushing the button, with the gravity doing the rest. The parent needs to use only one hand. After folding, you can unzip the bottom pocket, where the carry strap is hidden. The front-facing seat features partly made of mesh, breathable fabrics to maximize the comfort of the child during hot days - they are even fully washable. The backrest, as well as the leg rest, can be fully adjusted up to a lying position. Thanks to the option of adding a car seat (with adapters), and the full recline of the seat unit, the Lara is suitable from birth. The stroller comes with removable head support for the smallest babies, a rain cover, and a practical cup holder for a parent included.

Such a relief for our car boot after the bulky system we had before it. When going shopping, we have so much space in the trunk for everything else (like the bags). It's also super-quick to fold it and unfold - and it is compact when folded.

The sitting position is reasonable upright, and my toddler sits gladly in the seat (and he does nap in it as well).

The wheels feel too small for normal use, and the frame not sturdy enough - it shakes and vibrates on bumps; therefore, shaking the child inside. There ar eno damages or issues, but I am afraid of how long will it last.

A rain cover is included - I would appreciate if there were an apron for the legs as well.

Practically designed

4
  • comfortable, padded seat
  • gate-opening belly bar
  • extendable sun hood
  • useful peek-a-boo window
  • high-positioned, spacious seat
  • lie-flat seat with an adjustable leg rest
  • two baskets that can be accessed from both front and back
  • lightweight
  • folds easily, good for travels
  • durable
  • one-handed handling
  • rain cover included
  • handlebar has give, it wiggles slightly
  • hard to lift up curbs (easier when the seat is reclined)
  • noisy from wheels, one wheel getting stuck a little

All the pros and cons are summarized in the +/- bullet points. Overall, it's a great, practically designed pram.

  • foldable
  • handy
  • not for terrain

We use it at the grandparents'. Very foldable and handy, but not the best for bumpy terrain.

Great for traveling

4
  • compact folding
  • easy to fold
  • lie-flat
  • canopy with a window
  • super small basket
  • rain cover
  • fiddly harness

Great for traveling, I would recommend it.

Your questions about the Maxi-Cosi Lara²

1)

Hi,

Is this compatible with my Joie Juva car seat - would you know?

Regards,
Sheikh

Hey, SO,

As far as I know, the Juva is only compatible with the Joie Brisk LX, Joie Muze, or the Joie Mirus, as it is made to fit them adapters-free. So it most probably won't fit the Lara2, unfortunately - you will need a different, ideally a Maxi-Cosi car seat for the Lara2.

Just was wondering is Coral XP compatible with the Lara2?

Hey there,

Theoretically, yes, it is. You will, however, need 2 sets of adapters = the "usual" Maxi-Cosi car seat adpaters that have this U-shaped attachment side, and then, another adaptors specifically for the car seat special frame = the Maxi Cosi Inner Carrier Adapter for Coral XP. I attach both adaptors' pics btw.

The bad side to this is that this is a very small stroller, and anything needing two sets of adaptors might really move the center of gravity - making it either unstable or weird to drive. So, again, yes, theoretically the Coral XP capsule should be possible to attach (with the two adapters), however, it would be easier as well as better for the driving characteristics to have a car seat that only needs the one basic set of adapters (a simpler car seat).

Hi,

I’m looking for a travel stroller for my 6month old. I am looking at the Joolz Aer, Yoyo2, Bugaboo Butterfly and the Lara 2.

My current pushchair is the [[jool
z-geo|Joolz Geo]] - which I love, so I am more swayed to the Aer just for that reason, but I’m torn! Especially with the low price tag of the Lara compared to the others. Which would you say is the best all-rounder? As I say, it will be for travel at the moment, but I may start using it more after when he gets older, 18 months plus.

Heya, Lulls,

Hey, Lulls,

The best price-performance ratio is, at least from my point of view, the Joolz Aer(+). The sturdier design, better seat angle, a very tall backrest + head space (compared to, e.g., the Lara2), and a reasonable suspension make it a model that will last. Personally, I would get that one.

The Butterfly is a very nice option too, space wise, but doesn't seem as sturdy. The Lara2 is not bad, but better for sale babies, the padding and head hugger pillow + hood position make it less roomy, and it is also a bit on the rattlier side. I don't like the Yoyo myself, it is well made ans sturdy, but the backrest is short and very slanted, and I don't like how kids are "hanging" in there by the harness, it just can't be healthy nor comfy for them.

Does the Maxi Cosi Lara 2 have an integrated travel bag like the Lara does?

Hey, Chaunsey,

The Lara2 doesn't have the integrated bag, no.

Hi, I'm just wondering if you would be able to take the Maxi Cosi Lara 2 on a plane? Is it compact enough to be classes as cabin approved?

Hey, Lauren,

With the folded dimensions of 51 cm x 50 cm x 26 cm, the Lara 2 CAN comply with SOME airline's requirements, However, for some airlines, this may be a tad too big (usually they don't make a fuss about 1-2 cm but if it's more, you probably won't be able to take it on board as a carry-on). Be sure to check your usual airline's policy to be 100% sure, as this model is kind of so-so.

Hello!

I’m looking for an everyday stroller for my three month old son. Our budget goes to €300 max. We were considering this stroller but reading your advice it seems to be too tough for everyday use on newborns specially on bumpy roads… which other would you recommend on this budget?

Thanks a lot!

Hey, Mariana,

I would look at something a little more substantial, especially if it's for an everyday use with such a small baby. Especially the wheels and the frame itself should be a tad bigger, sturider.

I would suggest something like the Inglesina Maior, Baby Jogger City Mini2, maybe the Baby Monsters Alaska... I also quite recommend something like the Oyster Zero, even if pre-owned, though I am not sure whether it is available where you live.

Definitely don't look only at the price, check also used strollers of better brands of kind of this size if you're on a budget.

Hello, your website is so useful, thanks so much. I am going to buy the Maxi-Cosi Lara 2, could you tell me if it sits upright? My child prefers to be sat upright. Are there any compact prams you recommend which sit upright?

Hey, Jess,

The seat is not completely upright, but for the type of stroller, it is one of the more upright ones for sure. Just click on the picture I include and check the reference angle when in the most upright position. You won't get better with ultra-compacts, really, so it should work for you.

Hi,

I hope you can find me a solution because I am a bit hopeless right now. I have an Uppa Cruz, my 13 months old is not a fan of sitting still but ok with its upright position. BUT...
-we don't have a car and I will start to use public transformation for her to explore the city, Uppa is a bit bulky and heavy for that.
-we have a ten steps stairs in front of our apartment, I carry her in the stroller while praying I won't drop it or put her in the house first and run back to carry the stroller while she is crying and I hate both my options.
-sometimes my baby doesn't want to sit so I put her in Ergobaby carrier but its a bit hard to handle the stroller this way.

So I search and search for something:
-upright,
- comfy for her,
- tall enough handlebar (I am 173 cm tall, and generally used the Uppa's longer mode because it was more comfortable, but the shorter mode was also ok)
- all-terrain (roads are not smooth at all in my area and generally not in Istanbul, also I want to take her to forest walks maybe),
-strong,
-light,
-compact...

Clearly it doesnt exist :) Or maybe not in my country (Turkey).
I looked at some Cybex models, Maxi Cosi Lara2 (I read some blogs mentioned it is upright), Inglesina Quid2, Inglesina Now, Chicco Goody Plus, Mamas&Papas Airo.

I don't know which is more ideal or something else, maybe. My brain melted at this point. I read your article about upright strollers, but most of them are not available in my country.

Hey, blue. I know your struggle, but...

There is NO light & compact stroller for all-terrain and especially forest roads. This simply doesn't go together, and you will have to count in that. The lightest quite all-terrain model is the Baby Jogger City Mini GT2, which I would recommend, but it is by no means as small as the strollers you mentioned. It is flat after folding and around 9kg so as Cruz's more compact alternative, it's actually MUCH better.

Next, these, pretty much all, strollers are made for travel. Occasional use. Meaning small seat, lower handle, more slanted seat. That's another thing to know and remember. The highest would probably be the Chicco Goody+. I am 176cm and that was ok for me.

Lastly, what you need - all-terrain, strong... requires a higher weight, thicker bars, larger wheels. I know I am repeating myself but you can't have it all, in Turkey or elsewhere.

So... I would take away from the expectations. Either go for a super light option and smoother roads (and I will recommend the Uppababy Minu V2, which is sturdier, OR the Cybex Eezy S+2, which has larger wheels), OR go for the Baby Jogger City Mini GT2 as a flat but most universal option. And the best is to try them out in a store is unsure - to check the handle height and the comfort of your little one in the seat.

Hi,

I have the Lara 2 pram for my son who is 2 in May the straps are on the loosest, and it's tight - what can I do:

Hey, Sarah,

The straps are, unfortunately, quite short on this one. You can try to loosen them up as much as you can and only use them around your son's waist, OR you can try and buy universal "spare" harness on Amazon or eBay and change those (they won't color match anymore). Apart from that, there is nothing much to do.

Is it compatible with the Cybex Aton 5? (with adapters?)

Hey, Ines,

With the Maxi-Cosi car seat adaptors, you can attach a Cybex car seat to the Lara 2, yes.
