Diono Excurze

The Diono Excurze is an urban stroller - pushchair compatible with a carrycot as well as a car seat (with adapters). Its modern, stylish look is accompanied by a narrow footprint (21" / 53cm) and a lie-flat, reversible seat unit that folds with the chassis in both directions. To add to it, the seat's space is adjustable thanks to a 3-position adjustable canopy height, and you'll get a rain cover and an apron - leg cover (protective boot) with it as well.

The seat adjusts individually in the backrest as well as the leg rest area, and also, thanks to its padding, it is pretty much newborn friendly. For your newborn baby, a newborn Pod insert (cocoon), a bassinet attachment, and car seat adapters (included with the pushchair). The Excurze was also released in the Excurze Luxe version with premium, patterned fabrics.

Your questions about the Diono Excurze

1)

I’m looking for a stroller that I can put a newborn baby into without requiring any adaptors, as I’ll be using a convertible car seat. Does the main body of this stroller accommodate a newborn or do the extra accessories need to be purchased to put a newborn baby into it?

Hi, Melanie,

Thanks to the padded, lie-flat seat, it can be used for a newborn in theory. It won't harm him or her as long as you use it in the fully reclined position until the baby sits up by itself, without help.

However, the seat is rather large, and the tiny newborn CAN be a bit loose and lost in the seat. That is why I personally would use at least a good footmuff, but probably rather at least an insert liner for newborns, or a st cot/cocoon in the seat for the first few months for the baby to feel protected. Other than that, you can also just use a reclinable car seat on the frame and use the seat after a few months, when the baby is not so lost in it.

I’m looking for a high landscape compact stroller. I’m eyeing the Diono Excurze. Why is it so hard to find dimensions on strollers?! How high is the seat on the Diono?

I love the Graco Nest Slide2Me idea. I think that goes up to 32”! Which is what I prefer. But the Graco is too bulky.

Also, the Elittle Emu is another nice one. But the seat is only 23” high. Which seems normal to me. Any suggestions? Am I asking too much?

I was also trying to figure out if I could get a compact stroller that allows for an additional seat and just use the adjustments to put the carry cot on (to the level I like) (without getting an additional seat).

Hi, Allyson,

Unfortunately, one cannot have all strollers at hand to measure them, and the manufacturer doesn't state this measurement, I am sorry. The Excurze isn't, however, very high up, it is an average height-seat unit.

About the Graco (and similar strollers with a height adjustment), they are ALL very bulky as that is a mechanism that takes material and space. You won't find a very small stroller with a very high seat or seat height adjustment - and/or you will ôpay the price" just like with the Elittle Emu, which has a super small seat unit that will realistically last you about 1.5 years of age. And yes, 23" is not too high really.

So yeah, forgive me, but you want two opposite things. You have to prioritize - do you want a tall stroller? Go for a larger one. Like the Stokke Xplory, even if second hand (that is one tall stroller).

And - if by an additional seat you mean a second sibling seat and/or a carrycot, that will even ADD to the bulkiness, so you will end up with something the size of an Uppababy Vista (which is large). Just the logic behind it - it would simply not endure the strain if it would be small!

Hi!

Wondering about the wheels - they're rubber lined, but are they mainly plastic/foam filled/air filled? How big are the wheels? And how does it perform on rougher terrain? (Grass, gravel paths). I want a Stoller mostly for sidewalks and shopping, but also want one that can handle some local packed dirt/crushed gravel walking trails.

Thanks!!

Hi, JK,

Almost all "hard rubber" wheels are, at their core, EVA foam-filled. To make the wheels all-rubber would make the pram incredibly heavy and also quite expensive - there are such, e.g. on the Seed Papilio, but it is just a layer of rubber again (no foam, though)... Anyway, read more about different wheel types HERE.

We always write as much as possible (from measuring ourselves to taking info from the manufacturer), however, in this case, I cannot tell you the exact measurement as I did not come by any (and did not have this exact model in my hands). From my experience, I can make an educated guess and tell you the wheels are about 18 to 20 cm in the front and about 25 cm in the back. They will be MOSTLY urban wheels, so for smoother surfaces plus occasional grass, cobblestones, other bumps... I wouldn't get this for harsh terrain every day. The mild suspension also adds to that feeling. Some dirt roads and trails you'll be fine with, but if you will tackle multiple longer ones everyday I would rather look for inflatable wheels or foam-filled tires (actual tires) - or think about a three-wheeld or all-terrain four-wheeled stroller (more about the difference HERE).
