A compact upright pushchair for a 1yo

Jess B • 31 Jul 2022

Hi Eli,

I have a 12 month old who likes to sit very upright. I have used a yoyo up until now but I hate it’s lack of capability on anything other than super smooth terrain and no upright seat position. What would you recommend that is:

- mid-sized
- okay for rougher terrain - gravel, cobble stones, grass (sand would be a huge bonus too).
- easy/smallish fold (we travel a lot but I am okay with the buggy going in the hold rather than overhead locker) and the buggy is in and out of the car a lot.
- decent basket space
- upright seat but also with a good recline
- peekaboo window
- ideally belly bar and rain over included but not a deal breaker

I just bought a Baby Jogger GT2 (which is around the budget I’m looking for) but it feels really big and I need something a little neater.

Thank you

Hi, Jess,

If the BJ City Mini GT2 is too large, well, you are in for quite a small stroller, to be honest. The Baby Jogger City Mini Zip would actually work, I mean, it is not completely upright but similarly angled as the GT2 - though, this model is discontinued, so you'll probably only find it in classifieds.

Another option I quite like is the Mutsy Nexo, and the Quinny Zapp Flex folds in a neat package even with a reversible seat - and that one is actually a very nice position as it is a bucket-style seat which are usually more comfy from the upright point of view. From the small buggies, the Cybex Eezy S+2 is reasonably ok, seat-wise, and from the Yoyo-comparable ultra-compacts, the Joolz Aer and the Bugaboo Butterfly are your best bet in terms of not an incredibly slanted (though not 100% upright) seat.

For a really really upright seat, you will probably have to lower the requirements for size, if the above-mentioned don't suit you - let me know if I should also list the larger-than-the-GT2 ones.

Your -very berry- Eli.

Now, this is your place to ask. I'm listening.
