A stroller to take on a flight for a 3mo that will last everyday use until 4yo

Keeks • 16 Apr 2022

Hi there,

I’m looking for a stroller to take on a flight for my 3 month old. However, I want something that will be sturdy enough for everyday use and last until he is 4 years old.

I already have a lightweight travel pushchair from my first child but unfortunately, this isn’t suitable until he is 6 months old. This is the flimsy Recaro and I don’t want two flimsy pushchairs.

Main use will be on pavements with some field use possible. I would like to spend as little as possible whilst spending enough to get the right option. As further context, I also have the Uppababy Vista travel system so I can use this when not traveling over rougher terrains. Thank you :-)

Hello, Keeks,

Reading your first two sentences, "I’m looking for a stroller to take on a flight for my 3-month-old. However, I want something that will be sturdy enough for everyday use and last until he is 4 years old."... You want too much. There is no way a travel buggy of the smallest dimensions possible will at the same time be sturdy enough for everyday use, and will, size-wise, fit a 3 months old as well as 4 years old. The plane-friendly, carry-on-sized ultracompact pushchairs are simply made flimsier (read more here) as they were using as little material as they could to make their size so small.

Having said that, as it is important to say, from the smaller models, I actually can recommend about 3 compact buggies that would kind of be sturdy, BUT all three don't offer a full lie-flat for a 3-month-old, the Bugaboo Butterfly and the Joolz Aer. Unluckily that is not your best choice (what about using an ergonomic baby carrier until the age the baby sits up? just an idea...)

From the lie-flat models, I will probably recommend the Ergobaby Metro Plus as one reasonably comfy, reasonably spacious, and with an ok frame. Then look at the Mountain Buggy Nano V3 as it has a good enough chassis, but it is quite open.

Also check our top 10+ ultracompact strollers for this, 2022's summer as an inspiration. Ans please, think of the small stroller as an occasional one, and you'll e much better off. I mean well!

Best of luck, Eli
