Bugaboo Frog
.eli
The Bugaboo Frog is a designer urban stroller, a predecessor of the popular Bugaboo Cameleon. It was released in 2001. It is based on the original Bugaboo Classic, but they differ in logo and the brake located on the handle.
The name Frog was given due to the front wheels with suspension resembling the legs of a frog preparing to jump. The stroller is available as a 2in1 stroller system with the seat and the carrycot textiles that are attached to the same frame that you can simply snap on the chassis. The bucket seat can be tilted to a fully reclined position. With the optional car seat with adapters, you can create a 3in1 stroller system. Bugaboo Frog also came out in a design collaboration with Bas Kosters Studio.

Parent reviews of the Bugaboo Frog
I went for the cool design and the nippy one-handed steering. I liked the overall performance, and it's awesome you can machine wash the fabrics... I, however, wish it had a longer canopy, not a foam-covered belly bar (my kid chewed on it quite a lot), and the accessories would be less expensive. Well, you have to pay with a luxury brand. Also, don't count on getting into the basket when using it with the bassinet. We kept it with both of my kids - but complemented it with a compact buggy later on both times.
We loved the bucket seat since our son hated the lie-flat position in the bassinette! Such a help! The foldability is not good at all, however, and the basket is a catastrophe. The chassis is of good quality, but it started squeaking after some time (we bought it second-hand from ebay).
Lightweight - fantastic for public transport!
- zips through the city (agile)
- beautiful
- folding (bulky to do, bulky in size, two-piece fold)
- wheels getting stuck in the end
We had the frog, and we loved how smoothly it pushed in the city. A spacious and lightweight pram, even if not the most compact-folding. The fold is actually rather cumbersome - size-wise as well as doing it. We replaced it when the wheels started to get stuck a lot. It is an older model, after all.
- Gorgeous
- Looks like the Cam
- More affordable than the Cam
- Squeaky wheels
- Basket size and shape
I wanted a BGB Cam, but the Frog was more affordable. I do regret not buying the Cam because of the squeaky wheels. But maybe that would be a Cameleon's fault as well..? I can't really say... But the pram looks gorgeous.
I couldn't get it up curbs; it didn't drive well for me. Not much suspension. No getting in the basket. Folding is under-average.
Your questions about the Bugaboo Frog
Hello!
I have the Bugaboo Frog and I have the Graco SnugRide 35 Lite LX Infant Car Seat. I have the Graco Sungride adapter but it does not seem to click in to the car seat. Do you know if the adapter only fits certain Snugride models or perhaps the car seat is too new for the frog stroller now?
Hi, Meredith,
There was, as far as I know, only 1 Graco adapter type, so if your car seat doesn't fit on it, it truly may be the car seat is too new for the stroller. I mean, this model is over 20 years old, so the designs changed over time at least a bit.
I have the Nuna Pipa car seat, and the Bugaboo Frog stroller, which adapter do I need?
Hello, B,
You need the Maxi-Cosi adapter for the Frog particularly to attach that car seat.
I have the bassinet attachment on the stroller frame, but it seems to tilt forward/back even after hearing it click into place. Is this normal? I am worried that my child will slide down in the bassinet if I use it. Please help!
Hey, Jenna,
A little loosenes, like a gentle movement is ok, but if it's tilting quite a lot, it is not ok and probably some internal lock can be broken, not securing the bassinet's position into place. This can happen with age, something getting loose or breaking on the inside - and this is an old model already. If there's a lot of movement, don't use the stroller with a baby, there could be an accident.
Is it a good choice to take as a travel stroller? Can I take it to the cabin or do I have to hand it over before boarding? Thank you.
Hi, Agne,
As a full-size pram that folds in two (larger) pieces, this is definitely not a travel stroller, unfortunately. This is a full pram for everyday use, however not really practical for traveling. They will not let you take it on board as cabin luggage. You will have to hand it over or check it in to be able to take this ne with you on a plane.
Hello! Thanks for your work is super useful. I got a Cam Frog and I wanted to buy the textile part of a Cam 3 chair. Would it fit? Thank you so much
Hi Grace,
Unfortunately, no, the Cam 3 fabrics won't fit, the design changed a bit over time. You need to browse classifieds for the Frog or the first Cameleon covers.
Do I have to detach the seat or bassinet in order for it to close?…. or will it close all together with out having to go through that extra step of taking the seat off before closing?
Heya, Becky,
this very old Bugaboo model only folds with the seat REMOVED, so you will always have to click it off the frame to fold the chassis. It is a two-piece fold. This information can also be found in the Specifications section if you click on The Fold section.
Can I use the Bugaboo wheeled board on the frog? I saw it on the Cam and thought it looked like I could attach it in a similar way. But I don't want to invest if it won't work.
Thanks!!!
Hello, Rachel,
This question is a bit problematic because of two things. Bugaboo itself claims two opposite things: that the Bugaboo Comfort Wheeled Board can be used on all Bugaboo strollers:
Bugaboo Ant (no adapter required)Bugaboo Fox, Bugaboo Fox 2 and Bugaboo Fox 3 (no adapter required)Bugaboo Cameleon (2007 model) and Bugaboo Cameleon 3 (in combination with the Bugaboo Cameleon 3 adapter)Bugaboo Bee (2010 model) and Bugaboo Bee 3 (in combination with the Bugaboo Bee 3 adapter), Bugaboo Bee 5 (no adapter required) and Bugaboo Bee 6 (no adapter required)Bugaboo Donkey and Bugaboo Buffalo (in combination with the Bugaboo Donkey/ Buffalo adapter)
That means ALL but not all as the original Bugaboo Cameleon and the first Bugaboo Bee, and also the Frog and the Bugaboo Gecko are not even mentioned as Bugaboo strollers.
Officially, then, the sibling wheeled board accessory is not recommended and supported for these (and your) Bugaboo models. However, I do believe that with pretty much the same rear bars, the old Bugaboo Cameleon and Frog SHOULD be compatible with the wheeled board WITH ADAPTER for the Bugaboo Cameleon (2007 model).
The question also is that, as older models, these strollers could get seriously strained to damaged by being used with the extra weight of the board and the child on it on the rear axle that is more than 15 years old!
My own advice would be not to use it there... but if you absolutely need it, I would definitely try it with the Cameleon+ (2007 model) adapter. A good way is also to get an older board used with the older Cam before second-hand - it will be cheaper and you can even go and try it out in real life if the seller is close enough.
If not wanting to take risks while still absolutely certain about the buggy board, I have one more suggestion here. Try a Bumprider or a Lascal board that will work FOR SURE while, if your stroller gets damaged or you will swap it for a lighter or a more compact one, you can still use such a universal sibling board on a completely different model.
Does any car seat on the current market fit on a Bugaboo Frog?
Hello, Mairead!
Well, yes, many do (all Maxi-Cosi, Cybex, Kiddy, Recaro, Nuna, Joie, Clek Liing & others current capsules with a Maxi-Cosi-style attachment system). The thing is, you need the Maxi-Cosi/Cybex car seat adapter set compatible with the frog. If you do have it, no problem adding some of these car seats.
Can you reverse the handle?
Hi,
Yes, you can, the Bugaboo Frog handle, as the predecessor of the Bugaboo's Cameleon line of strollers, does feature a reversible handlebar.
The push with the handle reversed is, however not the most comfortable one - I'd only suggest that for short periods of time to literally only overcome bumps or holes on a bad patch of terrain.
Hello! Can I use a Cameleon seat on a Frog stroller? Or other accessories from the Camaleon on the Frog? Are they compatible?
Thanks
Hey, Mariel,
Well, yes, you can use the seat unit part and other accessories on the Frog - but ONLY from the Bugaboo Cameleon 1 and Bugaboo Cameleon 2 (Plus) (so the older models). The newer parts will NOT fit the old Bugaboo Frog. You will need to get the older spare parts and accessories either from an old stock somewhere or from used prams in classifieds.
P.S. Be aware that you cannot use the Cameleon bassinet fabrics on the Frog frame, you need also the Cameleon frame with the textiles to fit it the Frog stroller chassis.
